Life skills

This aspect of treatment runs throughout ANA Primary and Secondary treatment. It provides clients with the opportunity to develop the skills needed to function without reliance on substances, in society as part of a community.

The life skills programme is incremental in content and runs from simple to complex in parallel with an individual client’s recovery.

Examples of some of the areas that the programme focuses on are:

  • Relapse prevention
  • Offending behaviour
  • Group therapy
  • Ongoing recovery
  • Education
  • Self esteem
  • Personal Development
  • Budgeting, shopping, cooking
  • Realistic goal setting and achievement
  • Practical living skills
  • Living as a part of a community
  • Health and hygiene
  • Sexual health
  • Dealing with difficult people and conflict resolution
  • Relationships
  • Housing and resettlement

ANA also works with other agencies to assist with some of the above.
