- At ANA we recognise women and men have many different and painful issues that need to be addressed while in treatment.
- Women also differ significantly from men in their pattern of use as well as aspects of personality and gender - related issues.
- Both women and men have often experienced sexual abuse and/or have been involved in abusive and often violent relationships.
- Sexuality can be an issue difficult to discuss in mixed groups as with sexual problems caused by the continuous and prolonged use of addictive substances.
- Separate women’s and men’s groups are held weekly to address these issues, facilitated by experienced, caring and professional staff.
- Parenting skills can be worked on simultaneously with therapeutic visits if this is part of the identified care plan.
- One of our aims at ANA is to encourage future autonomy, healthy self-care and healthy relationships and the women’s / men’s groups are designed to support these areas of development.
