Rehab can often feel like a taboo subject. Many people may feel a sense of embarrassment and reluctance to open up, whether they’ve been to rehab or they’re thinking about going. Yet, there is nothing to feel embarrassed or ashamed about in seeking help. In fact, going to rehab to regain control of your life is something to be proud of.

Providing addicts with an intense programme of help and support in a safe and secure environment, rehab plays an important role in helping patients with drug or alcohol addictions to get on the road to recovery, as quickly as possible.

But what is rehab really like?

There are a variety of rehab clinics dotted around the UK, providing a range of specialist treatments for those struggling with drug and/or alcohol addiction.

Designed to give patients a break from the outside world so that they can focus on overcoming their addictions without external influences, rehab aims to provide long term treatments and coping strategies that prevent clients from relapsing as they move forward.

The type of rehab you need will depend on your addiction. The majority of patients spend anywhere from seven days to 12 weeks in rehab. There are lots of different treatment strategies employed by clinics.

During a stay in rehab, patients will typically be asked to participate in a series of therapeutic treatments, including individual behavioural therapy, group therapy, family therapy and other specialised therapies tailored to their individual needs.

All of these treatments have been designed to help patients to uncover deeply rooted issues, understand what triggers their addictive behaviours, help them cope with the temptation of drink and/or drugs, and teach them the skills they need to reintegrate into society.
