Addiction is challenging at the best of times, never mind in the midst of a global pandemic. With all of our lives changed by Covid-19, dealing with an addiction during these difficult times can be incredibly overwhelming.

Alongside many of the fears that come hand in hand with the virus, including financial insecurity, the fear of losing loved ones, as well as feelings of loneliness for those on their own, it’s easy to see why people have found it increasingly difficult to remain on the right track with their recovery.

If you are struggling at the moment, you’re not alone. We hope you find our Covid-19 recovery tips helpful.

Remember, the pandemic won’t last forever

It might not seem this way at the moment, but the pandemic isn’t going to last forever – there is a light at the end of the tunnel. With this in mind, when you’re facing hard times during your addiction journey, try to remember that things won’t always be this way.

So, although you might not be able to access some of the things that have previously aided your recovery right now, such as time with family and friends, or the gym, try to find other ways to keep your mind busy. Whether you Zoom your best friend, take a long walk, or simply put your head into working on yourself.

Keep sight of your recovery goals

Don’t lose sight of your goals! There will come a time when the world is back to normal and, when it does, you don’t want to be back to square one. Write them down and take each day as it comes as you work towards achieving your them.

Maintain a good routine

Routine is everything when it comes to overcoming addiction. It’s important that you have a routine that supports your recovery.

From having a set bedtime and wake up time, through to meal prepping and enjoying daily hobbies, a set routine will help you to keep structure in your life.

Embrace the alone time

Finally, life is so busy that it can sometimes be difficult to find time for you. And let’s face it, we all need a healthy dose of self-care from time to time. By embracing physical distance, you will not only have more time for yourself, but you can also remain in touch emotionally with loved ones, whether you are connected online or pick up the phone.
